Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda
On the Occasion of His Disappearance
During the time of Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura the pure religion of Vaiṣṇavism taught by the Supreme Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and His most confidential associates the six Gosvāmīs was essentially lost. The Ṭhākura was very sad in his heart to see this and with a desire to present the actual teachings of Śrī Caitanya, he wrote and published many books in Bengali, Sanskrit and English. Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura practically single-handedly revived the pure movement of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and presented the glories of Lord Caitanya to all learned men of the world.
However, so that this preaching could go on nicely even after the Ṭhākura left this world, he prayed to Lord Caitanya for a ray of Viṣṇu, an assistant and a successor from the Lord’s personal associates. Answering the prayer of the Ṭhākura, a son was born to him on February 6th, 1874 in the holy city of Jagannātha Purī in Orissa. This son was Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Gosvāmī Prabhupāda, who would later become known as the Lion Guru, the greatest preacher of all time.
