Siṁha Guru – Lion Guru

Śrīla A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda’s spiritual master, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda, was known as the siṁha-guru because of his bold and fearless preaching of the glories of the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa. Mayavadis would cross the street to avoid confronting the “Lion Guru.” Besides being a courageous preacher, he was ornamented with all divine qualities and full of ecstatic love of God.

Śrīla Gour Govinda Swami Mahārāja was also ornamented with all divine qualities and full of ecstatic love of God. His thunderous voice, which could be heard far and wide, would boldly declare that Kṛṣṇa, the beloved of the residents of Vraja, is the only object of all affection. Although he was humility personified he would very loudly and clearly impress upon one and all to wake-up from sleeping in the lap of the witch, Māyā.

As an uncompromising sādhu, a tireless preacher of the pure teachings of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, that lion among Vaiṣṇavas, a great ācārya, Śrīla Gour Govinda Swami Mahārāja equally earns the title “Siṁha Guru” for his fearless and powerful delivery of the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava siddhānta.
